| The eyes, the retina, is the only part of our body where the Central Nervous System can be visualized non-invasively. |
A healthy lifestyle does not only mean food. Diet has a big role, but even if eating what considers "healthy foods", a person can live a "unhealthy life" if they have a negative mind, never exercise or are unhappy at work or in a relationship, or doesn't love him/herself etc. A food plate can't change all that, unfortunately. It's very much in our minds, and our ego's.
- But, the gut, known as the enteric nervous system, or "second brain", will be effected by our food choices.
Here are some good "foods" for our mind!
Good fatty acids
Our brain has a percentage of 60% fat, which means that we need good fats for a healthy brain(among other things). Always be aware of the quality and stick to natural and organic. And with oils; always virgin.
The essential fatty acids can be destroyed when exposed to higher temperature.
Include healthy fats in your daily diet like;
extra virgin coconut oil, almonds, pumpkin seeds, extra virgin olive oil, walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, avocado, etc.
Herbs
Gotu Kola, Fo Ti, Passionflower, Valerian, Ginseng and Camomile are just a few of common herbs that are used for strengthening the nervous system in different ways. Ask your Nutritional Therapist for individual advice and medical uses.
Essential oils
Essential oils is a good way to effect the nervous system, as the fragrances reach it straight ahead through the nose.
Lavender for relaxation, Rosemary for circulation(memory), Pepper mint for uplifting energy.
Just be careful and don't "smell" to much or intense as it may cause nausea, essential oils are powerful.
Exercise
Not only does it clears the mind, improving blood circulation, boosting metabolism, reducing risks of diabetes, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases - also it supplies the brain with more oxygen!
It has a lot of benefits including our memory, and also it makes you more energetic, happy and self-confident.
Positive thining
Loving words, to yourself and people around you is good food for creating a healthy mind. No need to show studies on that, right?
When taking care of yourself, in a positive psychical and physical way, it creates good energy that will change your day/life with motivation, inspiration and good opportunities. And don't let your ego take over.
And at least...
Always organic natural fresh and seasonal foods that tastes great in your mouth, gives you energy and nutrition to keep you in a good and stable mood!
Avoid too much sugar - as it spikes with your blood sugar and gives you mood-swings. It can also cause Candida over growth, which will effect your brain(among other organ in your body). Good protein sources, like eggs, beans, organic free range meet, lentils etc.
Relax, have fun, take care, enjoy life, and make smart choices in life ;-)
