Top 10 for better immune response - save this...

At the market.

Holiday season is here, so are the flu season. Time to pack up with some antioxidant-, nutrition- rich foods that boost the immune system and kills those germs!

Below I have listed 10 of my favorites, what I consider the best foods and supplements you can eat to protect yourself;

Pau d'arco Lapacho
My favorite cleansing herb in general, this bark from Peru. This bark kills bacteria, virus and parasites and helps the liver. Also it cleanses the blood and lymphatic system. Brew 1 tbsp in one liter tea, and drink during the day.

Ginger
Holy ginger! Make soups, teas and juices! Ginger has anti inflammatory effects and boosts your immune system. Also thanks to the improving of circulation it helps you to sweat out those toxins.

Protease enzymes
Many knows about enzymes, and that they are important for the digestion and uptake of the nutrition in our food while eating. Without enzymes we wouldn't absorb much.
What's interesting here is what they do between meals. Taking protease enzymes when not used for digestion in the small intestines, they are free to roam through the blood and break down hard protein etc. They prevent inflammation in the body. For this effect they need to be taken 2 hours after meal or 30 minutes before.

Echinacea
Boost your immune system and prevents colds. Though only because it's natural, it needs to be taken in moderate amount as echinacea can give mild or serious allergy reactions.

Andrographis
aka “King of Bitters”: antiviral, and helps modulate inflammatory response. Common as herbal tincture, taken before meals 3 times a day.

Green tea
Green teas are rich in polyphenols, in the form of natural chemicals called catechins. The most powerful catechin in tea is epigallocatechin (EGCG), which was found in one study to be 25 to 100 times more potent than antioxidant vitamins C and E.

Garlic
not at the top of the ORAC chart (5,346), is incredibly beneficial to your immune system because it offers it all: antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal.  One of the best things about garlic is that bacteria, viruses, and yeast build up no resistance to it, unlike with synthetic antibiotics.

Cinnamon
ORAC 267,536; it's a powerful antimicrobial agent—found to kill E. coli and many other bacteria; it also has anti-inflammatory compounds and tastes very good in both food and drinks!

Turmeric
ORAC score of 159,277!; general immune system booster due to its high antioxidant capacity, and an anticancer agent as well; turmeric is five to eight times stronger than vitamins C and E.

Coconut
Besides being excellent for your thyroid and your metabolism, coconut oilis rich in lauric acid, which converts in your body to monolaurin. Monolaurin is the actual compound found in breast milk that strengthens a baby’s immunity

Where can I find the different herbs and supplements?
Check at your health store, "herboristerie", online (alpha plus or thorne) or send me an email and I can give you names on stores if you live in Stockholm, Paris or New York.

Happy new 2014 my friends!
Lina
