The Best Health Insurance - Bye Sugar

The beginning of February is here, and I thought I would give you a little article about sweet facts. Sugar.

I will be honest. And proudly say: I do consume very, very little sugar. My sugar sources are fruits in season, dates and other dried fruits and natural wine. Of course I have worked on it, but honestly... For about 10 years now consuming more or less very little sugars compared to a 'standard' person - I can say that the only really 'hard' thing with this decision of lifestyle is when it comes to social activities or maybe jealous buddies... Today, I do eat sugar if someone invites me to a cake, I eat it with pleasure and no guilt. I enjoy it. No problem. But if I start eating sugar everyday home, I will be addicted maybe and for sure the craving will be there. Today, I do not live with the craving - because my brain is still producing its own opoids.. And I am also lucky to share my life with a person that love the way I like to cook.

..... Food addictions, caused by the addictive nature of sugar, refined carbs, salt, and trans fats. These substances act just like heroin or cocaine,3 giving you pleasure by triggering an innate process in your brain via dopamine and opioid signals. Casein and gluten (a major component of wheat) also have addictive properties.
Your brain essentially becomes addicted to stimulating the release of its own opioids. The food industry has cashed in on this effect,4 deliberately hijacking your tastebuds, your brain chemistry, and your metabolism. As Dr. Hyman notes, the food industry has created an entire nation of people addicted to processed junk foods.
- Dr Mark Hyman.

Alright, sugar is like our main fuel for brain and energy in our body. But sugar, in that sense doesn't only mean white refined sugar. Because it is not a primary nor healthy source of energy, at all..
In fact carbs includes vegetables and fruit. And we find sugar in its natural form, and that is essential for our health. So don't worry, you will get your fuel. "Eat unlimited veggies" is a good motivation..

Sugar can also hide under less familiar names, such as dextrose, maltose, galactose and maltodextrin, just to name a few.
High-sugar meals are a problem largely connected to the processed food industry.
You don't really have this problem when you're cooking from scratch with whole foods, which are packed with natural flavors. Then all you need is seasoning.

Metabolism
When it comes to sugar, fructose is metabolized in your liver, while glucose is metabolized in every cell of your body. According to Dr. Robert Lustig, a neuroendocrinologist who has done extensive research on the role of sugar in your body, your liver can safely metabolize only about 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day. Any excess gets metabolized into body fat.

Fat doesn't make you fat. Sugar does..

There are so much sweet stuff we can enjoy in this world that isn't pure sweet refined sugar. When we start eating that cane sugar we easily get addictive, and other tastes taste less interesting because we get high on the
refined sugar. Plus all the rest that comes with high sugar consumption like depression, candida (yeast infections), migraines, inflammation, bad skin, mood swings etc.

To find a balance, were you can have one small dose of sugar a week or even month, without getting stuck and have it every day - that's good! And it is damn hard. So the way to get RID of your sugar craving is to go cold turkey. No secrets here. Just stop it.

And honestly, I assure you that if you quit cold turkey, you are only a few days away from an awesome happy body.

Did this give you some fact, inspiration or motivation?

If you ever feel that sugar-free living is painful, suffering or super boring.. You should by my new book "the Good Food Good Mood cookbook" that is all adapted to this lifestyle.

Ciao!
